COLUMBUS (WCMH) — (The image above is of afternoon temperatures projected for Monday from our in-house forecast model, it is showing 40s south and 30s north across our area early Monday afternoon)
Enjoy it while it lasts! The next few days we are going to see a warm-up like we have not had since late October with potentially 3 straight days in the 70s (assuming Saturday plays nice and warms before showers arrive).
In addition, we will see our 2nd warmest readings of the year this afternoon, only to be topped by tomorrow. Of course there is that day in mid February where we topped at 77, that could be in jeopardy tomorrow as we could push to a similar reading on the back of a southwesterly flow.
Speaking of wind… it will be gusty today, so hang on!
We could have gusts in excess of 45 miles per hour this afternoon!
Then there is our old friend winter….
After a few days of mild weather, which in part is being driven into our area by a large system that eventually will bring rain, storms, and a sharp cold front during the weekend.
By Saturday morning the cold front will be well to our west, so we should have a warm, and truthfully an “April muggy” day as well with higher humidity. This will give us our chance of pop-up showers and maybe even a few thunderstorms (later Saturday).
But it will also help keep our temperatures very warm, from near 60 in the morning, to the lower 70s in the afternoon again.
As of right now, the Storm Prediction Center does not have us under a risk for severe weather yet on Saturday, but the “marginal” risk does include the southwest part of the state for later in the day.
Behind the front things will be wet and cooler on Sunday with falling temps, but on the backside of this low, we could see light showers on Monday, and since temperatures are going to be chilly enough early, we could see wet (melting) snow flakes in the morning as well.
Winter returns for next work week 🙁
Yes, I think the bigger headline than the possibility of some snow flurries, is going to be the temperatures, which will struggle to get into the lower 40s in the afternoon for HIGHS!!!!! The temps will be at least 20 degrees below normal again. However, it will not last long as another warm-up returns, ahead of another cold front (doh!) that will push in midweek.
Bottom line…enjoy the next couple days when you can
If you can do lunch outside, take a morning or evening walk, or just spend a few minutes in the warm wind tunnel that will be Central Ohio, do it! We are going to see colder readings in no time, and April is looking pretty all over the place for the next few weeks with projected temperatures (generally speaking) running below normal.
