With The Memorial Tournament underway, 300 drivers are making sure fans, employees and volunteers make it to and from their cars safely.
According to tournament officials, the drivers operate roughly 60 shuttles during the week of the event.
Chris Stiffler, The Memorial’s Director of Operations, said every individual shuttle travels about 400 miles throughout the course of the week.
“We’re the first thing that a patron sees, a staff person sees and we’re the last thing they see,” Stiffler said. “If we are late, the entire tournament is going to be late.”
Many of the shuttle drivers have been doing so for a long time, including Mickey McCormick who has been behind the wheel for the last 10 tournaments.
“I use this opportunity to get out from behind my cube and help out the tournament,” said McCormick. “I think it’s a great volunteer opportunity.”
