Shelley Meyer talks about what it’s like living next to course during Memorial Tournament

The Memorial

DUBLIN, OH (WCMH) – If you have a house along the Muirfield Village Golf Club, everyone wants to be your friend during tournament week, and everyone is going to be checking out your house.

“There is a lot of pressure to keep your yard looking nice. Get those flowers in right after Mother’s Day,” said Shelley Meyer.

The gawkers will also be checking you out.

“I like to lie in the pool sometimes, but it’s kind of hard when thousands of people are walking by, watching you lie in the pool. And I probably say O-H, go Bucks about a million times a day,” said Meyer.

But, don’t say go Bucks too loudly.

“I was out here talking with some girlfriends. Yak yak and all of a sudden, I hear ‘quiet.’ That drives me crazy. They can’t take anything. I don’t know. They’ve got to get a little tougher I think, these golfers,” said Meyer.

Meyer suggests that maybe the golfers need a little heckling, like football players get. She suggested a few taunts.

“Hey Peyton Manning, how about those gators?”

“Looking good in the sand trap.”

“I’ve seen better swings on my front porch.”

“Hey Phil Mickelson, shouldn’t they get somebody your age a cart to ride around in?”

And when you get yelled at, it’s time to join the flamingos in the pool.

(Please note – no golfers were psychologically injured in the making of this story – thanks to photographer Jon Edwards for the tricky editing.)
