Meet Marco ‘Alpo Man’ Saunders, possibly the Browns’ biggest fan

COLUMBUS (WCMH) — Browns fans are still celebrating their win over the Jets last night, the team’s first win in nearly two years.

And no one is more excited than our own Marco “Alpo Man” Saunders.

Marco has been a Browns fan all his life. He’s from the Cleveland area and fondly remembers a moment from when he was 10 year’s old.

“I get to go to my grave seeing the Browns win a championship,” Marco told NBC4.

In 1964, his parents took him to the NFL Championship Game where the Browns defeated the Baltimore Colts 27-0. They weren’t called Super Bowls back then.

That game sparked a forever love for the Browns. He became a season ticket holder until the Browns left the city in 1996 and an active member of the Dawg Pound. And then a photo that appeared in the September 1993 issue of Sports Illustrated forever gave him the nickname “Alpo Man.”

“It wasn’t really dog food,” Marco explained. “It was actually Mary Kitchen Roast Beef Hash from Big Bear Supermarket.”

Marco still has the same hat he was wearing that day. He often wears it to work here at NBC4.

And he’s betting that Browns fans will see another championship soon. Literally. He took out a $10 bet this year that the Browns will win the Super bowl. The odds? 100-1.
