COLUMBUS (WCMH) — Columbus has acquired former Rangers defenseman Adam McQuaid from the New York Rangers in exchange for a 4th and 7th round pick in the 2019 draft. TSN first reported the deal, and with that deal Columbus picked up the quality defenseman it was seeking in the trade market.
McQuaid was originally drafted in 2005 by the Blue Jackets but he did not sign, opting to return to the OHL. The Jackets later traded him to Boston, where he played for 9 seasons. He was dealt to the Rangers this season.
McQuaid’s not known for his offensive skill but he’s a tough, veteran defender who has played in a Stanley Cup Final with Boston.
Earlier Monday the Jackets traded for goalie Keith Kinkaid from New Jersey.
The NHL trade deadline falls at 3pm.
