FFN Week 1 Preview: Four big games to kick off high school football season

FFN - High School

COLUMBUS (WCMH) — We’ve waited soooooo long.

Football Friday Nite is the most enjoyable time of the year for us—the fastest ten weeks of the season. And we’re especially excited for 2018 considering how 2017 ended.

Pickerington Central became just the third Central Ohio school to win the Division I state championship, and the Tigers return some key members of that team, including QB Demeatric Crenshaw.

It’s an excellent week one on FFN. Here are a few of the big games we will follow.

Liberty at Pickerington North

Liberty was the other Central Ohio Division I Team which advanced to the state semifinals last year. Pick North lost 3 games last year, two of those to Central. The Panthers are loaded with talent, including QB Michael Lowery. Lowery played at Gahanna the past two years and transferred back to North for his senior year. North sophomore Jack Sawyer already has an Ohio State scholarship offer.

Briggs at Olentangy Berlin

It’s the inaugural football game for Central Ohio’s newest high school. The Bears are coached by former Stow head coach Mark Nori.

Hayes vs. Buckeye Valley

The annual battle of Delaware produces some thrilling finishes, including last year. This year the game moves to Selby Stadium at Ohio Wesleyan, adding to the already-exciting atmosphere.

Reynoldsburg at UA

The Bears are coming off a disappointing season, and they will face a very tough opening test. The Raiders feature WR Mershawn Rice, a tall, talented pass catcher who will play at Purdue next year.
