COLUMBUS (WCMH) — Urban Meyer plans to coach his final college football game January 1 at the Rose Bowl, a place where he’s never coached a game in his legendary career.

Thursday was also a notable milestone in his Ohio State career. It was Ohio State’s final practice in Columbus before the Rose Bowl break. The team will gather Christmas night in Los Angeles and start their prep work the following day.

In a one on one interview Thursday, NBC4 Sports Director Jerod Smalley talked with a noticeably relaxed coach about seeing the finish line close by. Incoming Head Coach Ryan Day handled the bulk of the work on recruiting the past two weeks, so Meyer has focused on marking the gameplan for the Rose Bowl.

“I’d like to think that you look around that indoor facility, I caught myself a few times looking at the Chase, looking at the national title banner, looking at the undefeated season,” said Meyer. “The love I have and respect I have for this place to know that in a small way we added to it. That’s very humbling and I love it.”
