COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — Ohio State football coach Ryan Day is set to speak with members of the media at 11:30 a.m. Thursday as the Buckeyes continue fall camp.

On Tuesday, defensive coordinator Jim Knowles said he likes how the Buckeyes are progressing under his new system and highlighted OSU’s depth at defensive line.

Knowles coaches linebackers as well and said the group will be led by middle backer Tommy Eichenberg and outside backer Steele Chambers. Backing up those two players Thursday were Teradja Mitchell and Arizona State transfer Chip Trayanum.

Thursday practice observations

  • Cade Stover played first-team tight end during full team 11 on 11 and made two plays of 25+ yards on perfect throws from C.J. Stroud

“His physicality is what you notice the most,” Day said. “Good start to camp for him.”

  • Graduate receiver Xavier Johnson made several big plays during 7 on 7 and 11 on 11, including a 25+ yard gain on a seam route in tight coverage

“He’s developed into a really, really good receiver,” Day said. “I’ve been very impressed with his first week.”

  • Defensive highlights included an interception by Lloyd McFarquhar and a pass breakup by Denzel Burke
  • Ohio State is thin at cornerback with Cam Brown on a ‘pitch count’ and Jordan Hancock out right now

Ohio State begins its season Sept. 3 at home agianst Notre Dame under the lights at Ohio Stadium.
