PASADENA, Calif. (WCMH) – Urban Meyer has spent his professional life as coach with his wife Shelley at his side.

And that is where she was within moments of Tuesday’s Rose Bowl win.

“This is the way we wanted to go out, we wanted to go out with a win. His players played for him and they did it,” said Shelley Meyer.

NBC4’s Dan Pearlman asked Shelley Meyer if the fact that her husband’s coaching career has come to an end has hit home yet.

“The end? I don’t like that word. But it’s a good thing. But it’s also, I mean it’s bittersweet. It’s an end to something that we’ve been doing for a long long long time and I am sad. But I’m really happy for him because this is what needed to happen right now. And our family couldn’t be more thankful to Buckeye nation for just being so supportive of us through seven years and through the last year and the last five months and everything,” said Shelley Meyer.

There were few dry eyes on the field as Coach Meyer joined his family and team signing Carmen Ohio one last time.

Shelley Meyer says they will celebrate the win and figure out what is next another time.
