WEST LAFAYETTE, Indiana (WCMH) — The No. 3 Ohio State Buckeyes beat the Purdue Boilermakers 41-7 with a well-balanced offensive attack and stout defense.

Running backs TreVeyon Henderson and Miyan Williams were not unavailable for the Buckeyes. Chip Trayanum got the start at running back, but he was shaken up late in first quarter. Trayanum ran into several Purdue defenders, got up slowly and then stumbled going back to the Ohio State bench. He did not return to the game.

Sophomore Dallan Hayden stepped up for the Buckeyes, rushing for 76 yards and one touchdown. Despite the injuries, the Buckeyes ran for 162 yards as a team while averaging four yards per carry. After the game, Day said he couldn’t give any updates on the Buckeyes running backs.

Kyle McCord, playing without starting receiver Emeka Egbuka, also played well throwing for 276 yards and three touchdowns in just over three quarters of work. Marvin Harrison Jr. had another impressive day with a team-high six catches for 105 yards and one touchdown while Cade Stover added two touchdown catches in the win.

On defense, Ohio State held Purdue scoreless until the 14:30 mark of the fourth quarter. The Buckeyes held the Boilermakers to 257 yards and won the third-down battle, with Purdue finishing 3-of-17.

  • Jack Sawyer records a sack and Purdue is forced to punt for a fourth time
  • Ohio State is forced to punt for the first time after two penalties
  • Cornerbacks Davison Igbinosun and Denzel Burke have both broken up would-be touchdowns late in the second quarter
  • J.T. Tuimoloau and Jack Sawyer combine for a sack on 3rd and goal
  • Purdue misses the field goal. Halftime: Ohio State 20 Purdue 0

3rd Quarter

  • Ohio State scores on the opening drive on a one-yard TD run by Dallan Hayden. OSU leads 27-0
  • Purdue misses its third field goal of the game
  • McCord connects on a long throw to freshman Carnell Tate followed by a 14-yard TD to Stover for his second TD catch of the day. OSU leads 34-0
  • Kyle McCord is stripped sack and Purdue recovers inside the red zone

4th Quarter

  • Purdue scores its first touchdown of the game 30 seconds into the quarter. OSU leads 34-7
  • Devin Brown is in at QB for the Buckeyes. He hits freshman Brandon Inniss for a 58-yard TD to extend OSU’s lead to 41-7
