COLUMBUS (WCMH) — All eyes were on the Blue Jackets Tuesday night as they took to the ice, but in the stands, their wives and girlfriends were making a statement as well, a fashion statement that is!
The women in their lives call themselves the Lady Jackets and they have matching custom playoff jackets to prove it.
As Natalie Atkinson walks to her seat in Nationwide Arena to watch her husband take on the Boston Bruins, she is decked out in a custom playoff jacket with his name and number embroidered on the back.
And she isn’t the only one.
All the wives and girlfriends are donning the same white denim in support of the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Atkinson said it has become a tradition in the league to make the jackets.
“It’s a creative outlet for them to be united and together and have our own uniform like the guys do,” Atkinson said.
The jackets were designed to match the players’ jerseys with the same font and emblems.
“We even have the little stars like guys do on their wrists,”Atkinson said.
The design even impressing her husband, Cam.
“He was surprised by how good it turned out and it looks really professional and custom,” Atkinson said.
Although it’s an eye-catching piece of clothing, the jackets are more than that, it’s meant to show how deep their support is for the team.
“Every day we do everything at home that allows them to do their job here and just focus on hockey,” Atkinson said.
And as far as the Blue Jackets have come in the playoffs, Atkinson said she’s glad it has put the team on everyone’s radar.
“It shows that Columbus is a sports town. We’re not just the Buckeyes, we have professional sports too and they are just as good, if not better,” Atkinson said.
