Just two days now until Selection Sunday and the field of 68 is set for the 2019 NCAA Tournament. If you’re a team on the bubble, these are nervous times. But if you’re a team that has done enough to warrant a certain selection into the field, then it’s all about seeding. With conference tournaments still happening all the way up until the Selection Show, this is the latest projection. Some minor changes among the seedings and the teams that are in and out!
BRACKET GOES HERE
LOCKS (in order): Virginia, Gonzaga, Kentucky, North Carolina, Duke, Tennessee, Michigan State, Michigan, Texas Tech, Purdue, Houston, LSU, Kansas, Kansas State, Wisconsin, Florida State, Virginia Tech, Marquette, Maryland, Nevada, Auburn, Mississippi State, Buffalo, Villanova, Wofford, Cincinnati, Iowa State, Louisville, Washington, VCU, Iowa, UCF, Baylor, Utah State, Syracuse, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Seton Hall
AUTO (teams who have clinched their conference tournament are in bold): Vermont (America East), Liberty (Atlantic Sun), Montana (Big Sky), Gardner-Webb (Big South), UC-Irvine (Big West), Northeastern (Colonial), Old Dominion (Conference USA), Northern Kentucky (Horizon), Yale (Ivy), Iona (MAAC), Norfolk State (MEAC), Bradley (Missouri Valley), Fairleigh Dickinson (Northeast), Murray State (Ohio Valley), Colgate (Patriot), Sam Houston State (Southland), Prairie View A&M (SWAC), North Dakota State (Summit), Georgia State (Sun Belt), New Mexico State (WAC), Saint Mary’s (WCC)
BUBBLE (in order, last 4 play in “First Four” in Dayton”): Florida, Minnesota, Belmont, Arizona State, Ohio State, NC State, Temple, TCU, Furman
OUTSIDE LOOKING IN (in order): Clemson, UNC Greensboro, Lipscomb, Alabama, Indiana, Xavier, Creighton, Texas, Nebraska
THE CASE FOR OHIO STATE: I think they are firmly in the field of 68. But that could mean playing in Dayton in the First Four as one of the last at-large teams. Playing as well as they did with Kaleb Wesson back in the lineup surely helped sway the committee into how good this team can be when 100%. Also, beating a fellow bubble team like Indiana helps a ton. Beating Michigan State next would make their inclusion a certainty.
