MANSFIELD, OH (WCMH) — Vice President Mike Pence campaigned for Republican candidates in Ohio Wednesday during a “get-out-the-vote” rally in Mansfield.
Pence shared the stage with gubernatorial candidate Mike DeWine, Senate candidate Jim Renacci and congressional candidates Troy Balderson and Bob Gibbs.
“Hey folks, elections are won by the people who show up,” Pence told supporters as he urged them to encourage their neighbors, their families and friends to vote.
Pence said Republican victories are needed to further the agenda of President Trump. “It’s been two years of action, two years of results, two years of promises made and promises kept and that’s why we need Troy Balderson Jim Renacci and Mike DeWine working with us to move Ohio and America forward,” Pence said.
Republican Pete Allenbach of Mansfield said the issue of immigration and border security is at the top of his list. “The Democrats are trying to overwhelm the Republicans by importing illegal voters and it’s just not right,” Allenbach said.
Pence drew applause from the crowd of several hundred when he described the caravan of Central American migrants heading for the U.S. southern border an “assault on our country.” “The need for border security has never been more obvious to the American people as it is right now,” Pence said. “This president, these leaders are absolutely determined to end this crisis of illegal immigration once and for all.”
