COLUMBUS (WCMH)– Republican Congressman Steve Stivers defeated Democrat Rick Neal in Ohio’s 15th District seat race.

Leading up to the election many believed incumbent Steve Stivers had a firm grasp on his seat, but Republicans were still concerned about the possible blue wave coming to Washington in November.

Neal commented on his campaign before the election and why he believed he could win.

“People are talking a lot about health care this year,” Neal said. “They’re worried about that and retirement security, and they are really worried about what they see going on in the political system.”

Neal said voters he’s spoken to have expressed concern over the changes President Donald Trump’s administration has made to the Affordable Care Act.

Stivers has attempted to set himself apart in Washington by calling for across the aisle discussions.

“The president has some policies I agree with on taxes. The president has some policies I agree with on regulation,” Stivers said. “But the president has done some things on tariffs that I disagree with. He has done separation of families that I disagree with.”
