UVA men’s basketball team won’t celebrate championship at White House

The University of Virginia men’s basketball team will not go to the White House to celebrate its national championship.

Cavaliers’ Head Coach Tony Bennett issued a statement to say he and his team will decline a visit with President Trump in Washington.

Bennett said it’s because a number of his players are busy pursuing professional opportunities.

He canceled a visit by the Philadelphia Eagles last year, over the national anthem issue. In 2017, the Golden State Warriors said no to a white house trip after their NBA title.

Baylor’s women’s basketball team will make a visit will be the first solo visit by a championship women’s team to the white house since Trump took office.
