Woman rescued after car swallowed by sinkhole

U.S. & World

SHERIDAN, CO (NBC News) — A Colorado woman had the shock of a lifetime when her car was suddenly swallowed by a sinkhole.

Police video captured the moment – if you look in the background, you can see the car suddenly drop from view into a sink hole.

The woman managed to get out of the car with help from police, and it was just in the nick of time.

Her car dropped another 15 feet or so, and the hole filled with water.

The police officer who responded to this incident said this woman was lucky.

“No, she actually got lucky because her car didn’t go straight down. It started going down into it, so where she was able to jump out,” said Sgt. Greg Miller with Sheridan Police.

Officials haven’t removed the car yet, but say they’re hoping to be able to get it out later Wednesday.
