ORANGE COUNTY, CA (AP) - Authorities say a woman is in critical condition after being stung hundreds of times by a large swarm of bees outside a Southern California home.
Orange County fire officials say four firefighters also were stung trying to help the woman Monday morning at a home in Lake Forest.
Fire Capt. Tony Bommarito says a cleaning woman at the home was attacked when she went out to her car to get something from the trunk. The hive was hidden by bushes.
Bommarito says the woman's face was covered with bees.
He says firefighters grabbed a carbon dioxide fire extinguisher and used it on the bees.
Two firefighters declined treatment and two were treated at a hospital and released.
Bommarito says bee experts estimate the hive held at least 30,000 bees.
