A Pennsylvania woman is accused of starving three children.
She told police the mother left the kids with her a few months ago.
A family member found the three through social media and based on their condition took them directly to the hospital.
Allegheny County police say this woman, 35-year-old Jennifer Stout deliberately starved three children and forced them to live in deplorable conditions.
According to court documents, officials at Children’s Hospital say the children, ages 12, 9 and two all lost significant weight over the last few months.
The 2-year-old boy, losing eight pounds since September.
The doctor treating the boy told police she had never observed such rapid weight loss in a 2-year-old child in all her years of practicing medicine.
The boy was also experiencing hair loss related to his starvation.
According to the court documents, Stout is not the mother of the three children.
The children’s biological grandfather was eventually able to track them down through social media to his home on Hunter Street in Wilkinsburg.
When the family visited the home, an aunt told police, they appeared so thin and in such bad condition that she immediately took them to Children’s Hospital.
And all three children were filthy and looked severely unkempt.
Stout is charged with aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of a child and recklessly endangering another person.
She is in the Allegheny County Jail.
