WATCH: Croatian firefighters rush to action during important World Cup match

U.S. & World

ZAGREB, Croatia (WCMH) — Duty calls, even when your national soccer team is in a penalty shootout.

The fire department in Zagreb, the capital of Croatia, released a video showing the moment they were called out to an emergency–just seconds before Ivan Rakitic’s match-winning penalty that sent Croatia to the World Cup semifinals against England.

The fire squad is glued to the television, but as soon as an alarm goes off, they bolt out of their chairs, pull on their gear, and rush to the truck.

Several of them put their uniforms on over their Croatia national team jersey.

Seconds after the truck pulls out, Rakitic scores the penalty to send Croatia on.

Three men who are still in the station jump around and hug one another excitedly.

This is only the second time in Croatia’s history that their national team has reached the semifinals.
