A video of a woman calling police on a Milwaukee man who was getting into his own car is gaining a lot of attention on social media.
Corvante Davis told WISN he was getting ready to put money in a parking meter, but his car wouldn’t unlock at first, so he went around to the passenger side and opened the door after hitting the unlock button again on his key fob.
“By that time, I hear this lady shouting, screaming, ‘Dude, why are you breaking into that car? Whose car is that? Does it belong to you?’” Davis said.
Davis said he waited for the police to arrive, and when they did, they quickly verified it was his own vehicle. But by then, the woman had left.
“Stereotyping, racial profiling…maybe she thought the vehicle didn’t belong to me, but that’s why you ask questions,” Davis told WISN. “You don’t jump to conclusions.”
Davis posted a video of the interaction online after his family and friends encouraged him to speak out.
“I wasn’t going to. I don’t typically like to play the race card,” he said. “But in a matter of, you know, 24 hours, it garnered over 40,000 views and it’s still climbing. So, hopefully, these kinds of situations can be resolved.”
