VIDEO: Teacher arrested after punching student

U.S. & World

A teacher was arrested Friday after punching a student during band class in front of a room full of mortified students — some of whom recorded the violent confrontation with their cell phones.

Students identified the teacher as Marston Riley.

The beating is nonstop with the teacher wailing on the student, even using an object, possibly a phone to pummel the student to the ground.

Students and an adult try to pull the student away, but the teacher is relentless and cannot escape.

“I was scared for the student and probably for the teacher too,” two students said.

These two students were in the room when the fight occurred.

They were interviewed with their parents’ permission.

They along with other students say the fight began when the teacher told the student he was not wearing a proper school uniform. The student responded with a tirade of racist profanity, which can be heard on the video.

“It was just like back and forth, back and forth and that’s when everything happened.” the students said.

Students identified the teacher as Marston Riley.

At his Orange County home, his wife told a reporter she had not spoken with her husband.

“I don’t know anything. I don’t know what happened,” she said.

The fallout from the video is just beginning. Parents are furious.

“I’m shocked. Why did it have to escalate to this point,” a parent said. “I think something needs to be done. That’s way out of hand.”

The school district said the incident is a personnel matter and did not release a statement.

Multiple parents and students told the media the Riley had another major incident involving another student in a prior year.

The district was asked about the previous incident but has not responded.
