Two people aboard a small plane were injured after the plane crashed on top of a pickup truck in a parking lot.
The crash occurred near the Clay Desta Center in Midland sometimes between 10:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. Friday morning, according to officials with the Midland Police Department.
A parachute on the plane deployed when the plane began plummeting toward the ground. A witness said the parachute “picked the plane up totally vertical and then sat it down just like a momma sits a baby down.”
Witnesses said watching the plane plummet to the ground was scary and brought back flashbacks of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
“We were looking for an explosion, but it just lowered down, sat its nose down and fell over,” one witness said.
Police officials say the two people onboard the plane sustained minor injuries.
The plane took off from Midland Air Park and was headed toward Andrews, according to FlightAware.com.
The plane crashed after being in the air for only 20 minutes.
The FAA will investigate the crash.
