Lindsey Bubar is considered an incredibly happy person.
By the smile on her face, and the laugh in her voice, you would never guess she just spent the past year battling breast cancer.
“I had my 90 seconds of crying, then I said whatever I have to do to get rid of this monster, let’s do it,” Bubar said.
It’s that positive attitude that has made this mom an Internet sensation.
A video of Lindsey busting a move with surgeons at Baystate Medical Center just moments before her mastectomy has gone viral on the Internet. The video was her cousin’s idea in the operating room, and everyone from Lindsey to her surgical team, were all in.
“It was just something that I wanted for myself. I wanted to watch the video years from now and say, God I did that, so cool! And something to show my boys, so they could see this major accomplishment, this major fun thing that their mom did,” Bubar said.
But kids aren’t the only ones who saw just how cool their mom is, the video has now been viewed nearly 4-million times.
Many cancer patients are calling Lindsey an inspiration.
“Ya it wasn’t my goal, it’s kind of funny to have that label,” Bubar said.
Lindsey was diagnosed with cancer last July, and has gone through chemotherapy, a lumpectomy, and finally, a mastectomy.
She said if she has learned anything over this past year, it’s that attitude is everything.
“Just trying to turn something positive out of something that was so scary,” Bubar said.
Lindsey’s family has also helped make a difference. Her parents joined the Rays of Hope Walk for a Cure last fall, and “Lindsey’s Tribe” raised $13,800. This year, they hope to raise even more.
As for Lindsey, she’s now recovering, and spending time with her husband and two boys.
