Tyler Perry will end his “Madea” movie franchise next year.
The multitalented entertainer said in a radio interview Madea will take her final bow in a farewell stage tour and the film “Tyler Perry’s A Madea Family Funeral” next year to end the character.
“It’s time for me to kill that old b****, I’m tired, man,” he said on Bevy Smith’s SiriusXM show “Bevelations.” “I just don’t want to be her age, playing her.”
Mabel Earlene “Madea” Simmons first appeared on stage almost 20 years ago and went on to be the star of several of Perry’s hit films. Perry dons a wig, makeup and dress to portray the tough-talking elderly black woman.
The Madea films have grossed over $500 million at the box office. Perry, 49, has acted, directed, written and produced nearly all the Madea movies.
