President Donald Trump is expected to throw his support behind bipartisan criminal justice legislation during an event at the White House today.
Two sources close to the process say Trump is scheduled to announce that he is supporting the latest iteration of the “First Step Act.”
The sources say Trump’s son-in-law and senior advisor Jared Kushner is behind the bill.
Supporters of the measure expect that Trump’s backing will help propel the prison and sentencing overhaul bill through Congress.
