PORTLAND, OR (KOIN) — A hit-and-run crash that was likely intentional injured three women on the Portland State University Campus on Friday morning.

Swarms of police cars and fire trucks responded to SW 6th Avenue and SW Hall Street after the crash was reported around 10 a.m. Police said two of the women suffered life-threatening injuries and the other suffered non-life threatening injuries when they were struck by the car that went up on the sidewalk.

A witness told KOIN 6 he was sitting at Starbucks when he saw a newer SUV hit three women on or near the sidewalk. The SUV then took off speeding.

A police source tells KOIN 6 that the crash was likely intentional. They suspect the driver is suffering from mental illness and believe they have identified the car involved.

Officials are working to locate the car using surveillance footage and urge anyone with video from near the scene to contact police.
