FLAGLER CO., FL (WESH) — Three people have been arrested for multiple counts of child neglect after three children were found living in deplorable conditions in a Flagler County, Florida home.
Lynn Marie Kulka, 52, Michael Alan Choate, 24, and Rene Elizabeth Marchett, 26, were arrested by Flagler County deputies after the Florida Department of Children and Families conducted a two-week investigation.
Deputies said on July 3 they were called to assist DCF at a residence on Brelyn Place after a 4-month-old, who was living at the residence was taken to Florida Hospital Flagler with multiple insect bites and bone fractures.
Hundreds of bugs, including cockroaches, were found throughout the home crawling on the walls, in and around the children’s mattresses, bassinet and playpens.
The children, a 4-year-old, 1-year-old and 4-month-old, were covered in bug bites.
Authorities also discovered the home did not have a working air conditioner. When questioned Kulka told deputies she didn’t get the air conditioning fixed because she didn’t want the landlord to see condition of the home.
“This is a traumatic situation for all of the children involved,” Sheriff Rick Staly said. “The children who were living in this house were subjected to deplorable living conditions. I’m very proud of the hard work our investigators did to put this case together and thankful that the children are now safe from these three individuals who obviously don’t know how to be parents or properly care for children.”
