‘That’s my boy!’: Florida K9 tracks down suspect with 54 prior arrests

U.S. & World

The Pasco Sheriff’s Office shared intense body camera footage of a K9 chase over the weekend, giving citizens a look at the tough conditions their deputies face on the job.

The chase, that was shown on the “Live PD” television show, started when the sheriff’s office was called to help Port Richey police on a case. They said a man crashed his car into a pole, grabbed something from inside his car and then ran from the scene.

The body camera video released by the sheriff’s office shows the hunt for the suspect from the perspective of Deputy Nick Carmack.

In the video, Carmack and K9 Shep are running through the rain to search for the man. Shep eventually tracks him down and finds him hiding in heavy brush.

While Deputy Carmack was ordering the man to get up and put his hands up, he spotted a silver object in the man’s hand. Later in the video, Carmack says he thought it might have been a gun at first. He says he let Shep go so the K9 could latch onto the suspect’s arm. The object turned out to be a silver cup.

“He stood up with a cup and all I could see is silver,” Carmack says in the video.

Once the suspect is in custody,  Carmack excitedly praises Shep for finding the man.

“Woo! That’s my boy, Bubba! You got him, bub!” Deputy Carmack says while patting Shep. “That’s my buddy! God, I love you. You’re such a good boy. You’re my boy!”

Carmack also tells Shep he’s getting ice cream when they get home. The sheriff’s office later posted a photo on Facebook of Shep getting his treat.

The man who was arrested was not identified by the sheriff’s office on Facebook, but they say he has 54 prior arrests in Pasco County.
