ODESSA, Texas (KMID) – One woman is facing a capital murder charge following the death of a 3-month-old girl.
According to the Ector County Sheriff’s Office, the investigation began on April 16 when deputies were called to Medical Center Hospital about an injury to a child case.
At the hospital, deputies learned that the child had a fractured skull as well as fractured ribs on both sides of her body, according to a release from the sheriff’s office.
Deputies then spoke to the mother, Klarissa Ramirez, 19, who admitted to squeezing the child and striking her in the head with a dresser drawer, per the release.
She was then charged with injury to a child and taken to the Ector County Jail where she bonded out the next day, authorities said.
Meanwhile, the child was taken to a Lubbock hospital where she was later pronounced dead.
An autopsy later confirmed the child’s death as a homicide, according to the sheriff’s office.
Ramirez has now been charged with capital murder and her bond has been set at $250,000.
