Tennessee deputy shot, killed; Search ongoing for armed subject

DICKSON COUNTY, TN (WKRN) – A Dickson County Sheriff’s deputy was shot and killed early Wednesday morning, according to a high-ranking official with the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

A police source says the deputy tried to stop a driver with an expired tag around 7 a.m.. A short chase took place and then shots were exchanged. 

The deputy was killed. 

The location is near the Dickson – Hickman County line. 

The Sheriff’s Office advised an armed subject is in the area near Bear Creek Valley Road and Tidwell Switch. 

The suspect is identified as Steven Wiggins, according to the Dickson Sheriff’s Department

Dickson County Mayor Bob Rial confirms the suspect is still on the run.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation issued a statement on Twitter saying that TBI agents and forensic scientists are on the way to the crime scene.
