Teen killed in gun battle near high school football game in California

Fairfield police have arrested two people in a deadly shooting near a high school football game in California on Friday night, police said.

A 16-year-old is dead and an 18-year-old is in critical condition, police said.

The shooting happened near Armijo High School at around 5pm on Bell Avenue and Washington Street in Fairfield.

Officers found two groups were in a gun battle near the game. Two people were shot, and two suspects had fled the scene.

Police later found and arrested the two suspects within an hour. One suspect went towards the high school and the other ran into a neighborhood.

“A group of students and parents were moved from the football field to the gym on campus. As officers worked with school staff it was determined the suspect had entered the gym along with approximately 500 students and parents. Officers were able to safely take the suspect into custody and students were allowed to leave the gym and meet with their parents in a parking lot across from the school. The second suspect was safely removed from a house a few blocks from the shooting. All suspects are accounted for at this time,” police said.
