Teen identified as person struck, killed by trooper

U.S. & World

A North Carolina deputy recently struck and killed a teenage pedestrian.

The accident happened just before 8 p.m. on U.S. Highway 29.

Nicholas Masters, 19, of Concord, was walking south in the right lane of the highway when he was hit by a patrol car driven by Deputy Landon Pulliam, state troopers said

Investigators say Pulliam was responding to a call at the time.

Masters died at the scene.

Masters was wearing blue jeans, a dark vest, white shirt and a black backpack.

They also say there was no lighting on that part of the roadway.

Toxicology results for Masters and a download of the event data recorder on Pulliam’s patrol car are pending.
