Singer, 15, gets Mel B’s golden buzzer to strike back against bullies

U.S. & World

(WCMH) – A 15-year-old wowed the judged with her singing voice and earned Mel B’s golden buzzer on America’s Got Talent.

Amanda Mena, from Lynn, Massachusetts performed Aretha Franklin’s ‘(You Make Me Feel Like) a Natural Woman.’

“Wow, I am just blown away with your beautiful voice,” said Heidi Klum. “You have a beautiful voice and you’re a beautiful girl.”

“You sang ‘Natural Woman,’ you are supernatural talent,” said Howie Mandel.

“Do you know what you have, Amanda?” asked Simon Cowell. “You have genuinely natural soul. You really really do. I mean, that’s not an easy song to sing. This is an audition we’re going to remember for a long time, Amanda.”

“My gosh, where do I start? That was just incredible.” Said Mel B. “I love you, I love your voice, and this is what I’m going to say to all those bullies.”

Mel B. then pressed the golden buzzer, sending Amanda straight to the live rounds of the show.

Born in the United States, Amanda was raised in the Dominican Republic until she was four. She says she didn’t know a word of English and got bullied in school. She says music and her mom got her through that tough period.

Amanda says she has been singing since she was eight-years-old. In 2014, she was the winner of La Voz Kids on Telemundo.

Amanda is the fourth recipient of a golden buzzer so far in Season 13 of AGT. She joins singers Courtney Hadwin and Michael Ketterer as well as acrobatic dance group Zurcaroh.

In America’s Got Talent, a golden buzzer automatically passes the performer or performers to the live rounds of the show. Each judge and the host are allowed to press the golden buzzer once over the course of all audition rounds.

The Voice airs Tuesdays at 8pm on NBC4.
