SC Congressman jokes that Ruth Bader Ginsburg was groped by Lincoln

U.S. & World

A South Carolina Congressman made a controversial joke during an election event Thursday.

Fifth Congressional District seat Republican Rep. Ralph Norman opened up the debate between himself and Democratic challenger Archie Parnell by making a joke about the sexual assault allegations surrounding Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.

“I thought I was going to be late. Did y’all hear the latest, late-breaking news from the cabinet hearings? Ruth Bader Ginsburg came out that she was groped by Abraham Lincoln.”

Shortly after the debate, Norman’s opponent released a statement condemning his word.

The Kiwanis Club, where the debate was held, also released a statement, saying it was disappointed by the remark.
