A rare shark was caught off along the Gulf Coast near Destin, Florida by a group from Illinois.
Wes Jacobs was with his father-in-law and best friend with the Family Land Based Shark Fishing and Tagging Excursions near Destin when they reeled in a 10-foot, 8-inch shortfin mako shark.
The Family Land Based Shark Fishing and Tagging Excursions posted a photo on their Facebook page Saturday, but the shark was reeled in a week ago.
According to the Florida Museum of Natural History, the shortfin mako is considered one of the great gamefishes of the world and is now listed as a vulnerable species. They can reach speeds up to 20 miles per hour and combined with their power and aggressiveness, they are considered a danger to humans.
