Police: Man may have faked disappearance to escape rape charges

U.S. & World

(KSBW) Police in Monterey County, California went from searching for a missing man to investigating his possible staged disappearance in order to escape justice.

Kim Gordon is a Scottish man wanted in his homeland on 24 counts of rape.

Last week, Gordon’s son reported his father missing from Monastery Beach, saying he’d gone for a hike while his dad went for a swim.

Gordon was never seen again, prompting a land and sea search.

Investigators say nobody ever saw Gordon go into the water, and as the investigation progressed, the son’s story began to fall apart.

U.S. federal agents are now on the lookout for Gordon. His son, who returned to Scotland last Thursday, may be in trouble, too.

Investigators are not ruling out charging him with filing a false police report, as well as aiding and abetting a wanted fugitive.
