Person found dead near 36K acre wildfire in Oregon

PORTLAND, OR (KOIN) — A person who deputies believe was trying to create a fire line to stop the Substation Fire in Oregon was found dead Wednesday afternoon. 

The Wasco County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to a burned tractor and found the body nearby. Deputies believe the person died as a result of being exposed to the fire.

The victim’s identity will be released later.

The Substation Fire started near the Celilo Converter Station on Tuesday, according to the U.S. Forest Service.
