The New Castle Police Department is investigating an officer’s use of force after a video surfaced on social media.

It shows an arrest that happened on Monday evening. Officers were responding to a domestic disturbance involving an intoxicated man who assaulted a juvenile boy, according to police.

Police said the man tried to run toward a knife that was lying on a kitchen counter, so an officer began to struggle with him.

A second officer tased the man three times in an attempt to control him, but it did not work, police said. That’s when the second officer tried to control the man through force, according to police.

The man was then handcuffed and taken to the hospital. Police said he had cuts on his head.

After being released from the hospital, he was taken to Lawrence County Jail. He is charged with simple assault, harassment and resisting arrest.

The second officer has been placed on administrative leave during the investigation.
