NEW ORLEANS (WCMH) — The Audobon Zoo in New Orleans is closed Saturday after a male jaguar escaped its habitat and killed 6 animals.

According to a press release from the zoo, the jaguar was reported to have escaped from its habitat around 7:20am. The zoo was closed at the time.

The zoo’s veterinary team was able to sedate the jaguar and secure it. The jaguar reportedly attacked four alpaca, one emu, and one fox, which did not survive.

The Audobon Zoo scheduled a press release Saturday at 1pm. They say on Facebook that the jaguar, Valerio, will not be euthanized.

The zoo will reopen Sunday at 10am.
