ALBUQUERQUE, NM (KRQE) – A young New Mexico mother who contracted Hantavirus has died.

Kiley Lane, 27, was diagnosed in February and has been fighting for her life ever since.

The virus is spread through exposure to infected rodent droppings, specifically from deer mice.

Lane’s family has no idea how she contracted it.

“A month ago she was going to go to Costa Rica with a bunch of girlfriends, and enjoy a fun week. Now she can’t even go do anything on her own,” Julie Barron, Lane’s mother, said in February.

Her family says her life was filled with love, laughter and lots of prayer.

They thanked the medical team at UNM Hospital saying they did everything they could to save her.
