A Wisconsin mother is accused of driving under the influence while her child sat on her lap, steering the car.
Nathan Tietz was a passenger in a passing car when he says he saw something he had never seen before, WITI reported.
“I’ve never seen anything like that before. We look over and there is a child sitting in the front seat with her mom and the child is steering the car, all over the place,” said Tietz.
He later got his phone out, and recorded video of the driver, 41-year-old Amanda Hauke, keeping her eyes off the road for long periods of time.
“She is driving all over the place. Passing us. Driving in front of us. What are you doing? Look at the road. Look where you are going,” said Tietz.
When police pulled Hauke over, she denied that her 12-year-old daughter was in her lap steering the car.
Police say she consented to field sobriety tests and blew a .126 on a Breathalyzer.
Hauke is facing one count of OWI with a passenger under the age of 16, one count of operating with a prohibited alcohol concentration, with a passenger under the age of 16 and one count of second-degree recklessly endangering safety.
The district attorney said Tietz’s video was instrumental in bringing a felony charge against Hauke.
