SANTA ROSA, FL (WKRG) – Deputies in Santa Rosa County, Florida rescued a black dog who had been left inside a vehicle with closed windows and no air conditioning.

The responding deputy saw the dog on the floorboard panting and shaking uncontrollably with foam around its mouth, according to a press release from Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office. The deputy was able to remove the dog from the vehicle and provided the animal water.

Deputies then subsequently arrested the owner, Brian Hickey, on charges of animal cruelty.

According to the arrest report, once Hickey was in handcuffs, he called officers “pigs” and said they must not have anything better to do than mess with him.  He was transported to the Santa Rosa County Jail where he was booked and given a $500 bond.

The dog is reportedly doing fine.
