BATON ROUGE, La. (WJTV) – An LSU football player has shot an 18-year-old man to death, during a sales transaction in Baton Rouge.

According to a report from the Associated Press, police say two LSU football players were trying to sell an electronic item when the buyer reportedly attempted to rob them.

One of the players then shot the alleged, would-be robber.

Baton Rouge police released a statement Sunday which does not identify the players, but a person who is familiar with the investigation tells the AP that the players are running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire and linebacker Jared Small.

Police identify the deceased man as Kobe Johnson.

Johnson was not an LSU student and he died at the scene.

Police say the LSU players called 911 and waited for officials to arrive at the scene.

The two players were questioned and have been released.
