Hyundai, Kia recall hybrids for fire risk

TAMPA, FL (WFLA) – Hyundai and Kia are recalling over 37,000 hybrids due to an oil leak could cause a fire.

The defective part of the car may leak oil, which could cause an electrical short.

If that happened, a dangerous fire would be possible.

The defect was discovered during warranty repairs of vehicles with illuminated HEV warning lights.

According to Consumer Reports, neither Kia nor Hyundai is aware of any fires, crashes or injuries related to the problem. 

27,029 of the 2017 Ioniq hybrids from Hyundai are being recalled.

Kia is recalling 10,156 of its 2017 Niro hybrids.
