Hiker rescued after 400 foot fall

U.S. & World

SKAMANIA COUNTY, WA (KGW) A hiker who survived a 400-foot fall on Mount St. Helens says her rescue is “Nothing short of a miracle.”

Brittany Fintel, 32, was injured when she slipped down a snowy slope Saturday.

She thought she was going to make it, but one wrong step sent her tumbling nearly 400 feet down the side of the mountain. She slammed into several rocks, hitting both her head and hip on the way down.

Two other hikers, a nurse and a member of a search and rescue team, witnessed the fall and came to help.

Eventually the Coast Guard found her, and she was airlifted to a nearby hospital, where she is recovering from a concussion, a broken hip, a broken rib, and a small fracture in her spine.
