Firefighters lose homes to California wildfire

U.S. & World

PARADISE, CA (KCRA) Firefighter Jason Hawkins has worked for Station #82 in Paradise, California for ten fire seasons. This season, he lost his own home to the Camp Fire.

Hawkins is one of at least 52 firefighters who have lost their homes to the wildfire in Butte County, according to the International Association of Fire Fighters.

He says as soon as the fire started he evacuated his family, and then went about evacuating the rest of the town.

“There was a part of me that didn’t want to. I wanted to be with my family. I needed to be with them. And my wife actually convinced me: You need to go back and help your community,” he says.
