FEMA: Hurricane death toll will likely continue to rise

U.S. & World

The death toll from Hurricane Michael is now at 13.

The number of fatalities rose after the Virginia Department of Emergency Management reported five deaths related to the hurricane.

Officials say they had five suspected tornadoes in the state — shutting down 1,200 roads and knocking out power to 520,000 customers.

Virginia was one of four states with storm-related deaths.

One person was killed in Georgia and three in North Carolina.

Four people were killed in Florida, where Hurricane Michael made landfall as a category four storm.

FEMA Administrator Brock Lock says the official death toll will likely continue to rise.
