(WCMH) – The FDA has decided to extend the expiration dates for some Epipens.
The decision comes as a result of a national shortage of the life-saving allergy drugs. The Food and Drug Administration says the devices will now be good for three more months.
The extension applies to the 0.3 milligram dose of Epipen with expiration dates between April and December of 2018. It does not apply to the Epipen Junior.
Last week, the FDA announced approval of the first generic competitor to the Epipen.
