Disabled dog in the running for ‘World’s Cutest Rescue Dog’

U.S. & World

A dog born with severely underdeveloped front legs is in the running to win ‘World’s Cutest Rescue Dog.’

Rex, a lab mix just over a year old, came to Wisconsin from a high-kill shelter in Texas last year.

He was born with severely underdeveloped front legs, so he gets around with his back legs, scooting and hopping or using his cart.

Jolynn Burden of Janesville, Wisconsin initially fostered Rex. She fell in love and wound up adopting him.

She entered Rex into People Magazine’s ‘World’s Cutest Rescue Dog’ competition on a whim. Rex is now in the top 10 of more than 10,000 submissions.

“He loves other dogs, he loves playing and certainly, there are no boundaries that exist in his mind,” said Burden. “He’s very appreciative of having the life he has and having a family and having kind of a second chance in life.”

You can vote in the contest until August 31.
