WESLEY CHAPEL, FL (WFLA) – Florida deputies say a Georgia man made up a story about being carjacked because he didn’t want his parents to know he crashed their car.

Pasco County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a report of a carjacking on Wesley Chapel Boulevard on Sunday afternoon.

Batuhan Corluoglu, 28, of Alpharetta, Georgia told deputies he had been carjacked and kidnapped on Interstate-75 after he pulled over because his girlfriend was sick.

However, a woman who was in the car with Corluoglu told deputies a different story. Deputies say Tamara Tucker told them Corluoglu made up the carjacking story because he was involved in a car crash and left the scene.

The car that Corluoglu crashed is owned by his parents.

Deputies say Corluoglu told them he made a mistake.

Corluoglu was arrested on a charge of false report of a crime.

Details were not released about the car crash.
